On Saturday night, March 8, 2008, St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice, Veterans For Peace, Amnesty International, Grandparents For Peace and Iraq Veterans Against the War sponsored Anne Feeney's first ever concert appearance in St. Augustine.
The concert was a benefit for the IVAW's Winter Soldier Project. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Northeast Florida, we were able to raise $1000.00 for the cause after expenses.
Numerous people contributed their time and a fantastic assortment of snacks. The Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship provided the venue. About a hundred people attended the concert and contributed very generously to this worthwhile cause.
Bill and Eli Perras very generously donated their time and talent to provide the opening act. Their folksy, homespun music, progressive lyrics and vocal harmonies were a joy to hear.
Ann Feeney took the house by storm. From her opening song she had us all enthralled. Her range of issues included workers' rights, women's' rights, environmentalism, social and economic justice and pro-peace. The concert was held on International Womens' Day, and Feeney was at no loss for gender equality material. Inspired and inspiring, Feeney's powerfully presented music, great sense of humor, spoken tales about her personal life, professional presentation and her strong progressive stance were all appreciated by a grateful audience.
Thanks to a host of volunteers attending to the many details, and some highly memorable performances, the night is one that will be remembered forever by those lucky enough to have been in attendance.
