Just got back from D.C. a few hours ago and darn it one thing keeps sticking in my head.
Apart from the changing of command. Good.
And that thing is the vision of the new President and his wife dancing at the Commander in Chief Ball, as I saw on television.
It occurs to me that a function of the name "Commander in Chief Ball" indicates a tradition of American Presidents as "Commander in Chief" upon assuming the office.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
American Presidents are elected to head the executive branch of government, to administer the laws passed by the congress overseen by the courts in equal measure by the three.
The executive (the President) is an administrator, who is to implement the laws that congress passes.
Only in time of war does the President assume the title of "Commander in Chief", with its enlarged powers and constitutionally only when war has been declared by the congress which hasn't occurred since December 7, 1941.
The previous miscreant occupier of the office of President described himself as a "War President" who went around with "War on my mind", as he surely did.
It is not a moment of celebration when the President is the "Commander in Chief", it is not an opportunity, it is a time of a nation at peril.
Congress illegally gives war powers with out war declarations covering their political asses by resolutions and Presidents claim war powers by default, the result being where we are.
I am standing, hoping that the new holder of the office of the President of The United States is still a "Community Organizer" who will recognize the logo "Commander in Chief" for what it.
You don't want to own it without a declaration of war by the congress, it is dirty, and it is venal and too disgusting to be danced for, as to be an entrance to the Presidency as a matter of false history.
A "Commander in Chief" ball is an acceptance of unending war in that the President will never again be the civilian administrator, his duty, described in the Constitution, only a manipulator of those unknowable new powers of "War President."
George Bush promised us his war for the next President and boy did he deliver and boy should he hang as an American War Criminal by the same law that convicted the Nazis, which defines the crimes of George W. Bush and friends.
Their war, their crime, is to take our nation to war against the signed treaties of our nation in a conspiracy, the lynchpin in the Nazi convictions and the law of the world.
A fourth rate intellect surrounded by religion and misplaced ideology as to the value of humanity has reduced America to perhaps who we have always been, known to the world, kept from us by corporate media.
Never to be known by us if a "Commander in Chief" ball is sanctioned in a future inauguration.
One may inherit a war, but to sanction it in a dance in a war tent probably sends a wrong message to friends and foes alike.
