Just a day to go, and I sit and wonder will we be permitted to finally escape. Will there be no plane from the sky, no proclamation of unspecific TERROR! from the television, no troops to appear on the streets, no last triumph for greed, no atrocity against America and humanity to stave off the constitutional passing of power, to preserve and extend the most wretched eight years of governance in our history.
Some of similar thoughts will pray, others of us will simply hope, most will assume everything will be fine, in fact improved, and they need only to wait, perhaps impatiently but obliviously. But I almost tremble.
We suffered the abuse of power without honorable political opposition, with the complicity of the media and the passivity of the electorate, other than their enthusiasm for the treacherous Support-Our-Troops propaganda. And we who KNEW are perhaps the most blameworthy, never getting beyond complaining to the discomforts and risks of action that could have made a difference.
Just one more day for perhaps inauguration, contrived disaster, or perhaps just pre-pardons for the unconvicted but guilty. Perhaps it will all turn out well. Let’s hope, while admitting such would be more than we deserve.
