Solidarity Justice Peace

We have become the people our parents warned us about
And we are very proud of ourselves

We are residents of the St. Augustine area who, for too long, patiently waited and hoped for things to get better. On January 1, 2007, the government, in the words of mainstream media, "marked a grim milestone," the 3000th U.S. Military death in Iraq. On that day we joined St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice in La Plaza de la Constitucion for a vigil to mourn those losses. As members of the War Resisters League, we believe that all war is a crime against humanity. We are active members of St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice and Central Florida Veterans For Peace Chapter 136. We also believe that social injustice in all of its forms, racism, sexism, bigotry, hunger, homelessness, etc., and the resulting wars are the consequences of the deliberate acts of those few who own most of the world's resources to keep the working people of the world divided. We believe all wars result from the deliberate acts of those few to send the workers of one country to kill the workers of another for their own profit. We believe there is no such thing as an "illegal" worker. We believe all work has dignity and all workers deserve respect. We believe quality housing, food, medical care, education, respect and hope are the basic rights of every individual.

We must begin to rebuild our communities, our country and the world. Workers must take control of the means of production and run our work places to the benefit of ourselves, our families, our community and our environment.

This is our personal web page and the opinions expressed here are ours and do not necessarily reflect those of any of the organizations we work with or support.

They came first for the communists, and I didn't speak out . . .
because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out . . .
because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out . . .
because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak out. . .
because I was a Protestant.
And then they came for me, and by that time
no one was left to speak up . . .

We Provide Web Services For, Actively Support and/or Participate In

We maintain a web calendar of upcoming events in the St. Augustine area for a wide range of organizations and individuals striving to rebuild our community, our country and our world.

We support and participate in St. Augustine's annual MayDay Celebration - the real Labor Day

St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice

St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice: We are a coalition of concerned citizens in St. Augustine, FL., who feel called to speak out on issues of justice and peace. We believe that the American people possess all the resources necessary to achieve peace, anywhere, through diplomacy. We believe that the U.S. has a moral obligation to seek peace for all who share this world. We invite all to join us in calling for a just and peaceful resolution to the Iraq war and to all conflicts. Now is the time to take personal responsibility for our individual and collective actions that jeopardize the safety and health of humankind. War is not the answer.

People United to Stop Homelessness

People United to Stop Homelessness: P.U.S.H. was formed as a result of citizens' discontent at the inability and apparent unwillingness of local government to coordinate and utilize all the many resources available in St. Johns County to address the homeless population in the area. We are resolved to advocate for the homeless at the city, county and state levels. We will provide awareness and action through education and outreach activities. We will assist in providing liaison between various agencies, churches and nonprofit organizations. We will work to ensure that any solution to homelessness comprises full services: human basic needs such as food, clothing shelter and additional assistance including, but not limited to, medical care, mental health treatment, job training, substance abuse counseling and child care.

Veterans For Peace Central Florida Chapter 136

Central Florida Veterans For Peace Chapter 136: We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. To this end we will work with others:
- Toward increasing public awareness of the costs of war.
- To restrain our government from intervening overtly or covertly in the internal affairs of other nations.
- To end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons.
- To abolish war as an instrument of international policy.
To achieve these goals, members of Veterans For Peace pledge to use non-violent means to maintain an organization that is both democratic and open with the understanding that all members are trusted to act in the best interests of the group for the larger purpose of world peace.

Women for Peace

CODEPINK of East Central Florida: CODEPINK emerged out of a desperate desire by a group of American women to stop the Bush administration from invading Iraq. The name CODEPINK plays on the Bush Administration's color-coded homeland security alerts - yellow, orange, red - that signal terrorist threats. While Bush's color-coded alerts are based on fear and are used to justify violence, the CODEPINK alert is a feisty call for women and men to "wage peace."

We Actively Support and/or Participate In
The Collective Press

The Collective Press: The Collective Press is a not-for-profit publication based in, but not confined to, St. Augustine, FL. Its purpose is to provide an independent alternative to mainstream money-driven news sources, while fostering a greater sense of community among its readers and contributors. Every now and then we have a little bit of fun too.

St. Augustine Food Not Bombs

St. Augustine Food Not Bombs: Food Not Bombs is one of the fastest growing revolutionary movements active today and is gaining momentum. There are hundreds of autonomous chapters sharing free vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. Food Not Bombs is organizing for an end to the occupations of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. We also support actions against the globalization of the economy, restrictions to the movements of people and the destruction of the earth. St. Augustine Food Not Bombs served its first meal in November of 2003. They celebrated their 5th anniversary by sponsoring St. Augustine's First Annual March of the Impoverished.

The Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Project

The Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Project: Since 1983 the Society of St. Andrew has been salvaging fresh, nutritious produce from American farms--produce that otherwise would be left to rot--and delivering it to agencies across the nation that serve the poor. Gleaning America's Fields ~ Feeding America's Hungry. That is what the Society of St. Andrew does. We do it simply, and we do it more effectively and far more efficiently than any other hunger relief organization. Too see details of our past gleaning efforts click here. To participate email .
